Qi and Zhang needed a shoot-off to get into the gold medal match in the qualification. They and Turkish pair Tolga Tuncer and Rumeysa Pelin Kaya leveled at 143 hits, with Qi and Zhang emerging victorious after a 2-1 shoot-off.
China trailed by one shot after 20 shots, and Zhang stood out in the following rounds. The 19-year-old markswoman hit 14 out of her final 15 targets, helping China catch up and take the lead.
